More about our Values…

We believe in listening to God’s call to our diverse community,

nurturing and affirming everyone who gathers,

and speaking and living in truth,

while offering grace to ourselves and others.

We believe in listening to God’s call to our diverse community.

Everyone has a place in the circle at Oakhurst. We celebrate and embrace all the unique ways God uses to communicate with each of us. As we come together, we deepen our understanding of who God is, who God has created us to be, and how God is calling us to serve in the world. We trust that the Spirit guides us in our decision making, such as selecting leaders, building community partnerships, and planning worship and educational opportunities.

We believe in nurturing and affirming everyone who gathers.

Each and every child of God is welcome in our community. We work to create space where everyone who gathers knows that they belong and are safe to explore their faith and life.  You will see this in how we gather after worship, play board games on the first Saturday of every month, pass Christ’s peace to one another, and dive deep in our faith formation opportunities.

We believe in speaking and living in truth.

Authenticity and integrity are deeply embedded in the roots of our community.  We trust that intentional conversations, grounded in truth, enable us to grow in our faith and strengthen our community.  Truth-telling, to one another, to those in power, and to those who look past injustice is essential for God’s transformation of us – individually, as a community of faith, and in the world around us. Truth-telling in addressing racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, bigotry, classism, ableism, ageism, and all other forms of discrimination or oppression.

We believe in offering grace to ourselves and others.

God approaches us with unconditional love and grace. It is through this grace that we come to know that perfection isn’t required, nor is it possible.  We offer this same compassion and forgiveness to ourselves and others. In so doing, people are free to be human and show up as their most authentic selves.
