Director of Faith Formation, Outreach, and Communications (Part-Time)

We are seeking a creative, compassionate, and relational leader to serve as our Part-Time Director of Faith Formation, Outreach, and Communications. This position will cultivate meaningful opportunities for faith formation, community engagement, and congregational connection by developing Christian education programs, coordinating outreach initiatives, and overseeing the church’s communication strategy.

Position Details

  • ● Status: Hybrid Part-Time (20 hours/week)

  • ● Salary: $20,000–$25,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

  • ● Reports to: Head of Staff

Core Responsibilities

This role offers meaningful ownership, with support from volunteers and staff to sustain and grow key programs.

Christian Education & Faith Formation

●In partnership with the Pastor and Director of Children and Youth, develop and lead a comprehensive Christian formation program for adults and intergenerational ministry

●Plan and implement engaging weekly and seasonal opportunities that include:

○Bible study and faith exploration

○Spiritual practices and discipleship

○Community-building and fellowship

●Support and coordinate Sunday morning faith formation opportunities

●Recruit, equip, and support volunteer teachers and ministry leaders

●Create opportunities for members to deepen their understanding of Scripture, theology, and Christian living

●Develop and promote intergenerational learning experiences that strengthen relationships across the congregation

Outreach & Community Engagement

●Collaborate with the Outreach Committee to develop and implement meaningful outreach and mission opportunities

●Coordinate service projects, volunteer opportunities, and community partnerships

●Strengthen relationships with local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations

●Encourage participation in advocacy, justice, and compassion ministries aligned with the church’s mission and values

●Help connect faith formation with hands-on service and community engagement

●Promote opportunities for members and visitors to become involved in outreach beyond the four walls.

Communication & Creative Strategy

●Develop and maintain a comprehensive communication strategy that supports the mission and ministries of the church

●Manage and update the church website regularly

●Create and schedule content for social media platforms

●Design graphics, promotional materials, and ministry resources using Canva and other design platforms

●Coordinate and produce the weekly eNews, and special communications in partnership with the Church Office Manager/Administrator

●Create and maintain a communication calendar to support church events, programs, and seasonal initiatives

●Collaborate with ministry leaders to ensure timely promotion of events and activities

●Capture and share stories that celebrate the ministry and impact of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church

●Maintain consistency in branding, messaging, and visual identity across communication platforms (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

Relationship Building & Congregational Engagement

●Build strong relationships with church members, visitors, volunteers, and community partners

●Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and connected church culture

●Encourage participation in Christian education, outreach, and congregational life

●Support pathways for visitors and new members to become connected and engaged

●Be present at church events and activities to cultivate relationship and promote ministry opportunities

○Monthly “Sunday Funday” gatherings

○Quarterly outreach and service projects

○Seasonal events and special programs

●Organize and implement:

○Summer trips, retreats, and mission experiences

●Develop intergenerational opportunities that connect children and youth with the broader church community

Administration & Leadership Support

●Maintain ministry calendars, schedules, and communication timelines with strong attention to detail

●Attend relevant committee meetings and provide staff support to Christian Education and Outreach ministries

●Provide regular updates and reports to staff, session, and ministry teams as needed

●Assist with planning, promotion, and implementation of special church events

●Actively participate in the life of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church

●Engage in other duties as assigned by the Head of Staff and Session

Qualifications

Required

  • ●Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

    ●Experience in Christian education, communications, nonprofit leadership, ministry, or a related field

    ●Strong written and verbal communication skills

    ●Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities

    ●Experience with social media platforms, digital communications, and graphic design tools such as Canva

    ●Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and church leadership

Preferred

  • ●Presbyterian background or familiarity with Reformed theology (not required)

    ●Seminary training or theological education (not required)

    ●Experience in developing and leading adult faith formation programs

    ●Experience in coordinating outreach, mission, or community engagement initiatives

    ●Experience creating digital and print communications

    ●Experience recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers
